Privacy Policy

The short version: this is a small consulting site, and it collects very little about you. No accounts, no sign-up forms, no advertising trackers. Here's the honest, plain-English account of what happens with your information when you visit.

Last updated: June 25, 2026

A note on what this is. This page is written in good faith to tell you plainly how I handle information. It is not legal advice, and it isn't a substitute for counsel. If you need a formal data-protection agreement for a specific situation, reach out and we'll sort it out properly.

Who I am

This website, marikaolson.com, is operated by Marika Olson Consulting, the trade name under which Rogue Bureaucrat LLC — a Washington State limited liability company — does business. When this policy says "I," "me," or "we," that's who it means.

If you ever want to reach a human about anything on this page, email marika@marikaolson.com. It's me reading it.

The short version

  • I don't run advertising trackers or sell anyone's data. Ever.
  • This site has no login, no account, no newsletter sign-up, and sends no marketing email.
  • The main way you'd share information with me is by emailing me or booking a call — both because you chose to.
  • A handful of trusted services help the site run (hosting, fonts, the scheduling tool, and privacy-minimal analytics that uses no cookies). They're listed below.

What I collect, and why

When you email me

If you email me — or use a "mailto" link on this site, which just opens your own email program — I receive whatever you choose to send: your name, your email address, and your message. I use it to reply to you and, if we end up working together, to do the work. I keep that correspondence as long as it's useful for our relationship or as long as I'm required to for tax and business records, and then I let it go.

When you book a call

The "Book a call" button uses Calendly, a third-party scheduling service. When you book, you give Calendly your name, email, and a time; I receive those details so I can show up to our call. Calendly handles that information under its own privacy policy, which is linked below. The scheduler is embedded on the contact page, so Calendly may also set its own cookies when that page loads.

When you just read the site

You can read every page here without telling me who you are. The site itself doesn't ask you to log in, fill anything out, or accept tracking. Two ordinary things still happen in the background, the same as on most websites:

  • Server logs. My host (Cloudflare) automatically records standard technical information when any browser requests a page — things like your IP address, the page requested, the time, and your browser type. This is normal web-server housekeeping, used to serve the site, keep it secure, and protect it from abuse. I don't use it to build a profile of you.
  • Fonts. The site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, so your browser makes a request to Google to fetch them. That request includes your IP address, which is how the internet delivers the files.

Cookies

A "cookie" is a small file a website can store in your browser. This site does not set its own tracking cookies, and it has no cookie banner because it doesn't need one. Even the analytics described below keep their bit of state in your browser's localStorage rather than in cookies. The only cookies you might pick up here come from the embedded Calendly scheduler on the contact page, and only if it loads. You can clear or block cookies anytime in your browser settings.

Analytics

This site uses PostHog (US Cloud) for privacy-minimal product analytics — just enough to see which pages are useful and how people move through the site. I've deliberately turned the intrusive parts off: no autocapture (it doesn't record every click or keystroke), no session recording (it doesn't film your screen), and no cross-site or advertising tracking (it can't follow you to other websites). It captures basic page views and ordinary usage, and nothing that follows you around.

Notably, this runs on your browser's localStorage rather than cookies — so it doesn't set tracking cookies, and there's still no cookie banner to click through. If I ever change what's collected, I'll update this page to say what's running and why before relying on it.

Who else touches your data

I keep the list of third parties deliberately short. The ones involved in running this site are:

  • Cloudflare — hosting, content delivery, and security for the site. Privacy policy
  • Google Fonts — serves the typefaces the site uses. Privacy policy
  • Calendly — the scheduling tool behind "Book a call." Privacy policy
  • PostHog — privacy-minimal product analytics (US Cloud), as described under "Analytics" above. Privacy policy

Separately, once we're actually in touch, I use ordinary business tools to correspond and do the work (for example, email and document software). I share your information with those tools only as needed to communicate with you and deliver what you've hired me for, and I don't sell it to anyone.

How your information is kept

I take reasonable, sensible steps to protect the information you share — but no website or email system is perfectly secure, and I can't promise otherwise. I keep what you send only as long as there's a real reason to (replying to you, doing the work, meeting tax and recordkeeping obligations), and then I dispose of it.

Your choices

Because I hold so little, this is simple. You can:

  • Ask me what information I have about you.
  • Ask me to correct it or delete it.
  • Ask me to stop emailing you, and I will.

Just email marika@marikaolson.com and tell me what you'd like. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as Washington State privacy law, the broader set of U.S. state privacy laws, or the GDPR if you're in the EU or UK. I'll honor those rights in good faith; tell me where you are and what you need.

Children

This is a business-to-business consulting site. It isn't directed at children, and I don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Links to other sites

Where I link out — to LinkedIn, Instagram, the books I write about, or a tool — those sites have their own privacy practices, and this policy doesn't cover them. It's worth a glance at theirs when you go.

Changes to this policy

If I change how the site handles information, I'll update this page and move the "last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
